Your No-Fuss Skincare Routine

Looking for the recipe for glowing skin?

Look no further!

With our love and knowledge of all things skincare, Gaia & Vie HQ have created a simple step-by-step for all your skincare needs.

Cleanse

A vital step in all routines and one you should take seriously.

AM:  it’s all about preparation in the morning to make sure your skin is ready for the day. Using a gentle cleanser helps remove any morning grease to make sure products you apply after work to their best potential. A gel or milk texture will work well for this step.

PM: a double cleanse is essential in the evening.

Cleanse 1: If you wear makeup or SPF during the day, using an oil or balm cleanser can help break this down. Apply in circular motions until all makeup is lifted and use a warm, damp wash cloth to remove.

An all-time favourite of mine is The Body Shop Chamomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter, as it is easy to use, suitable for all skin types and comes in recyclable packaging…it’s a win-win if you ask me.

Cleanse 2: this is all about cleaning your skin, using a cream or a gel-based cleanser helps remove any excess dirt and oil build up. After this cleanse you should feel clean but not stripped.

Our founder Ellie is loving the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser at the minute.

“I love this cleanser, particularly in the evenings as it gives such a deep clean and doesn’t over strip the skin, helping to balance out my oily skin”

Eye Cream
For me this has become quite an essential step in my routine, and as they say…’the eyes are the window to the soul’ so we need to look after them as much as we can. The skin around our eyes is super thin, showing fatigue and ageing the quickest, so never skip your eye cream. You don’t necessarily need a separate day and night eye cream but if you’re extra then these are the general rules you should follow when deciding:

AM: brightens and tightens in a lightweight formula

PM: a slightly richer formula that deeply hydrates or includes retinol to help out fine lines

A cult eye cream is the Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado from Keihl’s. Its thicker formula provides deep hydration without leaving a residue, meaning it can be worn both day and night! Just apply a thicker or thinner layer depending on the outcome you want.

Serum

Think of this step as treating your skin condition, whether it’s blemishes, fatigue or dehydration, this is where your serum comes in. If you have money to spend, this is where you splash the cash, as they are high impact and don’t get washed down the sink at the end of the day.
Hyaluronic acid and vitamin C are good starting out serums, they offer hydration and brightness giving instant affects. At the minute I’m loving the Glossier serums as they are super lightweight and easy to use but are super affective.

Moisturiser/Oil

Next up is moisturising.
If you’re oily you may prefer a gel-like, texture. Whereas if you’re dryer, a thicker cream might suit you better. It’s all about how you want your skin to look and feel throughout the day.

A lot of people prefer a thicker cream at night to deeply hydrate and nourish when sleeping. I’ve noticed that my skin has been quite angry during the colder months this year, and I’ve found the CBD Replenishing Moisture Cream from The Body Shop has really calmed my skin, leading to a more even and radiant complexion.

If creams aren’t your thing, then Gaia and Vie have got you covered when it comes to oils. Our Nourish Oil is an almond blend to help soothe and restore dry and sensitive skin, while our Clarity Oil provides an oily and blemish prone skin with a more even complexion. You can buy our oils HERE.

The hemp blend in our Clarity Oil is really helping to calm down my breakouts at the minute, making it an essential in my daily routine. Which oil is your favourite at the moment?

But what if I want both? Creams and oils are best mates when it comes to skincare so layer them up if you fancy, I find it best to apply oil first to give myself a little facial massage, and then follow with a cream to lock it all in.

SPF

If you’re going to take one thing from this post make sure it’s to buy and SPF! Being protected from the sun prevents premature ageing and hyperpigmentation such as acne scaring, so always try and get one with an SPF of 30 or higher for ultimate protection.

The traditional SPF is a thick, white cream, but with more knowledge of ingredients, many brands now offer light creams that protect without leaving a cast on the skin.
Apply after moisturiser daily on the face and neck (also apply some over the ears if you wear your hair up) and make sure you double cleanse in the evening to remove it. Many moisturisers now contain an SPF so there is no need to buy two separate products, just make sure you don’t use this in the evening, your skin simply doesn’t need it.

My favourite all time SPF is the Anthelios 50 from La Roche-Posay. Its lightweight formula makes it easy to apply and highly protective, without making my skin greasy throughout the day.
